Meet vardenafil +
Vardenafil is the active ingredient in Levitra®, available as an affordable FDA-approved generic. It belongs to the PDE5 inhibitor family — the same class as sildenafil and tadalafil — and is taken as needed roughly half an hour to an hour before activity. For some men, it works when other PDE5 inhibitors haven't.
How to take it +
Take one dose (typically 10 mg) about 25–60 minutes before sexual activity, no more than once per day. A high-fat meal can slow how quickly it starts working. Sexual stimulation is required for it to work. Your provider recommends the right starting dose for you.
Side effects to know +
Common, usually mild effects include headache, flushing, stuffy or runny nose, and indigestion. Vardenafil should never be combined with nitrates. Review all considerations with your provider before starting.
Why vardenafil

A dependable alternative

Vardenafil is a well-established PDE5 inhibitor for erectile dysfunction. Its most valued role is as a second option: many men who see little benefit from sildenafil respond well to vardenafil, giving your provider another proven tool to try.

An option when sildenafil falls short

If Viagra® or generic sildenafil hasn't worked well for you, vardenafil is a common next step to discuss with your provider.

Fast, as-needed dosing

Take it about 25–60 minutes before intimacy — no daily regimen required, just when you need it.

Affordable generic

The same active ingredient as Levitra® at a fraction of the brand price through 503A partner pharmacies.

A proven mechanism

Vardenafil works the same clinically validated way as other PDE5 inhibitors — improving blood flow with natural arousal.

How it works

The science, in three steps

Vardenafil is a PDE5 inhibitor. It supports your body's own erection response by keeping blood flowing to the penis when you're aroused.

1

Blocks PDE5

Vardenafil inhibits the PDE5 enzyme, which normally breaks down the chemical signal (cGMP) that allows an erection to form and hold.

2

Blood flows in

With PDE5 paused, blood vessels in the penis relax and circulation increases whenever you're sexually aroused.

3

Firm & ready

The result is a firmer erection that's easier to achieve and maintain — with natural arousal still required for it to work.

What is vardenafil?

Vardenafil is the generic form of Levitra® — a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor approved for erectile dysfunction. As a generic, it contains the identical active ingredient to the brand at a far more accessible price.

It's taken on an as-needed basis, usually 25 to 60 minutes before sexual activity, and its effects typically last around 4 to 5 hours. Vardenafil works the same way as sildenafil and tadalafil, but individual men can respond differently to each — which is why vardenafil is a valuable alternative for anyone who hasn't found success with another PDE5 inhibitor. Because it relies on natural arousal to work, vardenafil supports your body's own response rather than overriding it.

Vardenafil has years of clinical use behind it, now available as a low-cost generic of Levitra®.

You want provider guidance

A licensed provider reviews your history and helps you compare vardenafil against your other options.

Vardenafil FAQ

How is vardenafil different from Viagra or sildenafil? +
Vardenafil (generic Levitra®) and sildenafil (generic Viagra®) are both PDE5 inhibitors that work the same basic way and have similar as-needed timing — roughly 25–60 minutes to onset and 4–6 hours of effect. The practical difference is individual response: some men who don't get a good result from sildenafil respond better to vardenafil, and vice versa. That's why having more than one PDE5 option matters, and why your provider may suggest vardenafil as an alternative.
Is vardenafil a good option if sildenafil didn't work for me? +
Often, yes. Not responding to one PDE5 inhibitor doesn't mean you won't respond to another — men can react differently to sildenafil, vardenafil, and tadalafil even though they share a mechanism. Switching to vardenafil is a common, evidence-based next step. Your provider will also check that the first medication was taken correctly (right dose, enough attempts, on an appropriate stomach) before deciding what to try next.
How fast does it work? +
Most men find vardenafil begins working within 25 to 60 minutes of taking a dose. A high-fat meal beforehand can slow it down, so many men take it on a lighter stomach. Natural sexual stimulation is still required for it to work — it doesn't cause an automatic erection.
What dose will I get? +
Vardenafil comes in 5 mg, 10 mg, and 20 mg. A 10 mg dose is a common starting point; your provider may adjust upward to 20 mg if needed or downward to 5 mg based on your response and health history. The right dose is chosen from your intake and can be adjusted over time.
Who shouldn't take it? +
Vardenafil should never be taken with nitrate medications (used for chest pain or certain heart conditions) — the combination can cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure. It may not be appropriate for men with certain cardiovascular conditions, uncontrolled blood pressure, certain heart-rhythm issues, or those taking specific other medications. Disclose all your medications and conditions during the visit so a licensed provider can determine whether vardenafil is safe for you.
Do I need insurance or an appointment? +
No. There's no insurance required and no in-person appointment. You complete a short online visit, a licensed provider reviews your information, and if appropriate, vardenafil ships discreetly to your door. A prescription is not guaranteed and is subject to provider review of your health history.
